Hit by a deer

Yep, you read it right. I was hit. I was hit by a deer. Here are the pictures to prove it. Also, if anyone can explain the physics of this to me, I'd appreciate it. Here are the facts I recollect:

My car and I (with passenger grandma) are traveling southbound on a country road at approximately 45-50 mph. The first I hear of this "deer encounter" from the east is...BAM! (kinda like the sound of hitting a huge pot hole) Didn't see it...ever, except through my peripheral vision as the head and neck of the deer were flying away from me back across the road into the ditch (yes, still attached to the body), and I'm pretty sure it was facing forward. The mirror of the side mirror is popped out. But...from the look of the photos, the major blow to the deer was at the driver's side front fender. I'm thinking it's body swung around and hit the door after the fender, but it is all a mystery.

There were no breaks screeching, and no swerving at all (except a small "reaction" turn after the fact). All human bodies are still in tact, and we are counting our blessings. The $500 deductible takes a chunk out of savings, but thanks to Grandpa and a fully-funded emergency fund, I think it'll be alright. I am grateful the insurance will foot the other $2,500 part of the bill.

Plus, I had a few dings and scratches on the door and bumper that were annoying, it'll be nice to get those fixed up. :)

I got to see grandpa in action while we waited for the sheriff to show up:

And the car behind us got to see the whole thing. They were long-time family friends, and the little girl even got a sheriff's pin out of the deal (see photo...above the "W") It made her day! (Glad I could be of service).

Entertaining Story of the week

A few odd things happened to me this week, and I would love to share a story with the world (or the 2 people that actually read this).

The weekend was filled with the hustling and bustling of wedding activities, and the whole family was here. On Saturday morning my brother exclaimed he’d like to go to a JC thriftstore. Kind of an odd request for 8 in the morning, but we went! It was fun brother/sister bonding.

As I laid my $1.49 Taebo videos on the counter at the Goodwill, the lady behind the counter was uncharacteristically friendly and outgoing! She was joshing with a fellow employee and then making conversation with me as I handed her my money.

She joked about how busy it was, how I got a great deal on the videos and how she'd like to get her teeth back in…wait…what!?? Then the conversation proceeded as follows:

“Oh, well I’ve had pneumonia for the last three weeks and have yet to get rid of this horrible cough…” (she then hands me my change and I can’t help but wonder what microgerms are digging their way into the fabric of the dollar bills.)

“Anyway, every time I would cough, my teeth would just shoot out of my mouth! I couldn’t keep them in! So, I’ve had to resort to looking like a little old lady for a while! Oh well.” She graciously smiled, with her top lip folded in, and packed my items into a plastic bag.

“Have a great day honey!” she exclaimed, and we left with smiles and peculiar smirks on our faces.

It's June already?

It's been a while since I've updated, so I'll give it a whirl. Work has been chalk full of projects and changes and more projects. But, it helps the day go by!

Almost every weekend I’ve been working on some sort of meda project, including wedding and highlight videos, little league photos and ebay website layouts. (you don't wanna know) But I am grateful for extra money. I'm also teaching Digital Photography ONLINE, which sounds like it should be easy...but it's definitely been a paradigm shift. I created a blog to post the student's photos for display and critique. There have been a few growing pains, but I'm very proud of them!

However, I still seem to make time for fun relaxation and last weekend headed to Union Station for “Celebration at the Station” and “Jenny Day” So…
